SURF LIFE SAVING SYDNEY SURFING COMPETITION 2007 - 2008SLSS held the annual surfing competition on Saturday 15th December 2007 at Maroubra beach. The competition was held to encourage youth of Surf Life Saving Clubs with a passion in surfing to compete for their Clubs, develop board riding skills which are an integral part of lifesaving and rescues in the surf, and make new friendships amongst like-minded youth. There was a huge turnout on the day with members representing Bronte SLSC, Maroubra SLSC, South Maroubra SLSC, Cronulla SLSC, North Cronulla SLSC, Wanda SLSC and North Steyne SLSC. From as early as 7AM Maroubra beach had a buzz as competitors began warming up and preparing themselves for the competition. Members competed not only for prizes generously provided by Quiksilver, but also the chance to have their Club win the annual shield. Bronte SLSC turned up in force to uphold their title.
The competition ran very smoothly thanks to the efforts of the experienced officials working on the day. I would like to thank them all for an outstanding effort, they definitely earned their egg and bacon sandwiches. I would like to thank Chris Locke from South Maroubra SLSC for the use of equipment on the day and Tim Murray Maroubra SLSC for their assistance during the day and the use of their Club’s facilities.
